Fu Yin Fan Yin

伏吟 Fu Yin & 反吟 Fan Yin

In Bazi, 伏吟Fu Yin is a situation where a pillar is repeated. It can be any pillar of the natal chart or the Luck/Annual Pillar, or even Monthly/Daily Pillar.

Example:      2019 is 己亥Ji Hai                          Jul 1st is also己亥Ji Hai

Here we have a Fu Yin formation.

The basic meaning of Fu Yin is repetition. Repetition of something and this something depends on the Ten Gods. That is why Fu Yin is not always a bad or troublesome situation. If the Ten God is favourable then it will double the good. From the about example, if 己Ji represents our wealth and is favourable, money is probably coming our way. At the same time, if 亥 Hai represents our resource (having 壬 Ren as main Qi) and it’s unfavourable, then some problems related to health, reputation, education, among others, can simultaneously happen. This means that we can previously take notice when it will happen and its meaning.

Beside the Ten Gods, the pillar involved can also tell us different meanings. As we know, each pillar represents different period in one’s life, different people of our relationships and also different matters. Since Fu Yin comes as a repetition, it is a feeling of pressure on the people involved.

This kind of repetition can also happen from other pillars. A Fu Yin with Annual Pillar can have a more intensive but short effect but with Luck Pillar this effect will last for ten years. It means during this period, the same issues can reappear.

One way to make it easy to recap is a table like the shown below.

反吟Fan Yin

When two pillars are in clash, i.e., stems and branches in clash with each other, it is called 反吟Fan Yin in Bazi. Since it involves the whole pillar, it will entail a major consequence and usually we don’t like to see major clashes. But here we need to analyse the elements, the Ten Gods and the pillars involved. Who/what is clashing who/what? Is favourable clashing unfavourable? That seems OK!

These two pillars will clash each other

In order to make it easy to follow, I had put the main situations and their possible meanings in a table. When analysing the pillars and their interactions, it is important to include the elements and the Ten Gods involved. To do this, you need to know beforehand which are the favourable and unfavourable. Although the meanings shown at the table are negative, sometimes a clash can have a good outcome depending on what are in clash.

Basically, if favourable clash unfavourable, can have a good outcome. If favourable clash favourable the outcome might not be so good. But when it is unfavourable clashing, the outcome will always be challenging.

These are the possible situations but it is also important to take in to account the strength of the elements and their interactions (Five Elements). When weak elements are clashing in, the result can be a minor issue but if the negative elements are very strong then it can result in major and stressful issues.

Once you know the existence of these situations it is advisable to take actions to prevent or to lower the effects by avoiding dangerous activities or arguments and doing some health check-ups.

Remember: Better understanding your Bazi chart allows you wiser choices.
