A harm formation is a type of relationship between Earthly Branches that cause a negative outcome or situation. It’s like the feeling of being put in difficult or dangerous situations due to someone else, leading to problems and suffering. It’s emotionally disturbing and catches by surprise. It mostly involves betrayals from someone you trust and you are unable to run from the situation. Since it can be something that you are not expecting for and can last for some time, it can be very unpleasant.

Harm formation occurs when an Animal Sign (branch) prevents the Combination of two others Signs by clashing one of them. Taking Shen-Hai Harm as an example, Hai will Harm Shen by Clashing with Si preventing it to combine with Shen. To make it easier to memorize, you can follow the image below.

Examples of Harm:

*Our spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend stolen by our best friend.

*Our partner misappropriated our project.

*Gossips and backstabbing leading people to believe that we had stole a big idea.

Will this Harm Formation be worst then a Clash?

Almost every Bazi Practitioners will say yes, far more. It is because we can see a Clash coming but we will never be prepared for Harm situation, it will last, it will be painful and we can’t run away from, sometimes leading us to deep suffering and depression or something even worst.

The best way to deal with it is to accept, accept, and accept, no revenge – for betrayal;

LET GO and MOVE ON – for losses;

Don’t think too much or think that everything happens for some reason: “If a door closes in front of you, a window will open”. Sometimes, some bad things need to happen in order to bring the good things.

We need to remember that for a Harm to occur, it have to be the feeling of betrayal and the loss of something, be it emotional or material. The situation usually catch us by surprise because we take things for granted or due to carelessness. Harm situations are usually negative but depending on the elements and the Ten Gods involved, at the end, the outcome can be somehow positive. Under a careful analyzes, we can notice that a single formation or combination mostly won’t happen solely and we have to take into account the situations that are taking place all together.

Below are some of the situations/conditions of Harm Formation that I found on the subject:

子未害 Zi Wei Harm is considered the most severe as it is “Heaven Earth Harm” and is usually a Confusion Harm, like your mental equilibrium is affected.

丑午害 Chou Wu Harm causes pain due to betrayal but it will level up the intolerance and anger towards others.

寅巳害 Yin Si Harm involves gossips and petty people.

卯辰害 Mao Chen Harm is serious and people involved are also very closed, as relatives, friends or spouse. The closest the relationship the more damaging is the Harm due to carelessness or over trust.

酉戌害 You Xu Harm is like rooster and dog relationship, not peaceful.

申亥害 Shen Hai Harm involves gossips and betrayal due to carelessness.

  1. Hi,
    Thanks for the information you provide here. I also started studing feng shui, then I found BaZi and I’m really in love with the subject… never tire for looking for information and that’s how I ended here. Looking for Clash, Harm, Punishment…
    If you could give me an insight on this one I’ll aprreciate:
    We can see a harm coming in 10 luck pillar, in the current year, have it in our natal chart… I suppose any of this events affect different subjects considering the pillars with the harm combination right?
    So let’s say, I have a harm combination in chart between month pillar and year pillar, I’m a Bing Zi – Ji Wei combination. (being Ji You DM). What aspects of life are here involve, work?
    What if this combination was between DM and Month?
    (waiting for the punishment post:))
    Thank you in advance

    1. Hi Marisa. Sorry for late reply.
      Month pillar refers to your siblings and parents, career, bosses, superiors. Year pillar refers to your childhood and grand parents, your friends, network. When the Harm already exist in the natal chart, it will be triggered by the two branches involved, whenever they appear again. Depending on the Ten Gods they represent, you can understand who will harm who (or what) and if this situation is serious or not.Let’s say, your favourable and strong Ten God Harm your hostile not so strong Ten God. The outcome will not be too bad.
      Day pillar refers to you and your spouse. Day and Month harm can mean issues between your parents and your spouse or you and your boss. This can help you to be aware and pay more attention.

      1. Thank you! Really helpful and very well explained.

  2. Hi,
    how to spot the “harm” on bazi? my day has Mao, my month has Chern, is that mean i have 卯辰害?

    1. Yes. Since they are in the month and day pillar, there are chances to occur in the period between age 17 and 50s. However minor related situations can occur when triggered by one or both of them (when they appear again). You have to put all 6 or even 8 pillars together to analyse the seriousness of the situation.

  3. Hi,
    Love reading your articles!

    Can you elaborate more on zi-wei harm? Cannot quite understand the ‘confusion’ part.
    Eg. If my natal has wei (RW, HO, DR) and zi (DO) comes in for 2020, what does the harm imply?

    Thank you!

  4. I know this was posted in 2019 and it’s 2022 however, but I have to say that I have a Harm Combination in my Bazi Pillars. Dog month & Rooster Day and it represented my love triangle with a female friend back in high school and although I was able to gain clarity from it years later, I feel like telling people to just let it go and move on definitely doesn’t work especially if feels like a command and not encouragement to do so willingly. As I learned more about my bazi pillars, I was able to understand myself better as I developed mindfulness about my environment eventually leading to me coming up with my own saying “You Can’t Let Go Of Something That Was Never Given To You”
